Sure merchandise can be good to improve a companies incomings but the it should be more interesting stuff. I was never interested in this.
Then I think when an company offers too much merchandise to their entertainment product then its highly possible the product itself isn't that good (not completly done at release or probably overhyped) and they want to get enough money in advance so it wasn't a total failure.
About the ending: I was really really hoping for something like the 4th season final of Babylon 5 (pretty similiar situation as in ME). It somehow works for me after the extended cut but theres still a bad taste.
ARCHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: "Shut up and take my money!"
Description:
Spend alot of money for a game and its merchandise without overthinking it first.
I just had a horrible vision of Mass Effect turning into the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica.
Shepard learned from Apollo's mistake and left the kid behind.
The ending of Mass Effect 3 is basically in the same situation as Galactica 1980 where everything that led up to it was pretty good (the Mass Effect series was great up until the last 10 minutes) but the ending is so poorly thought out and so awful that the fans have entirely dismissed it as non-canon and it is replaced by something far superior.
The only downside is it took 23 years and a complete re-imagining for Ron Moore to fix BSG, hopefully it doesn't take as long for Mass Effect to get the ending it deserves.
